Some of the best people I have known in my life were 3 special mature women and they gave me great advice nurtured me and scolded me when I was wrong, but always with love and support. Edinburgh Festival

If you want to get fit for a couple of weeks and have no choice but to walk on cobbled streets and up hills and lots of stairs around a beautiful city, you would love a holiday at the Edinburgh Festival!

The street acts were great, there were detailed tattooed jugglers, juggling knives on unicycles, to then various groups playing tricks on the gathering crowd's, to small bands playing jazz to single violinists playing Vivaldi on the streets for free or for a donation of your own choice. The hills and cobbled streets are all about walking and good exercise, deep breathing and getting to the next show quickly and I loved it!

The rain didn't seem to stop anyone getting anywhere and being surrounded by people who enjoy the same things and shows as you, with an intelligent approach to drinking and standing in cues in the rain chatting, was a joy. The tours, the old town and the historical splendor takes you back in time like no other city can. The people, the performers were great and the public were intelligent and interesting apart from the odd heckler in venues, but they were very funny most of the time. I think I enjoyed the people more than anything. The way that everyone was dressed in Edinburgh was interesting. Some people were grungy, some casual or smart and they all acted with finesse and were fascinating to watch. I love ‘people watching’, it's a fabulous way to pass the time of day while drinking a bloody good Italian coffee.

All of the shows I went to were fantastic and soooo professional! Watching young fresh faced people and their Ooh so need to get this right nerves were singing and dancing for us. They are just starting new careers with their whole young lives ahead of them and looking and listening to them was so good for the soul. Comedians telling jokes, complaining about the fact that they were, "loosing more money then they were making coming to Edinburgh", was stated on a regularly basis by some of the Comedians. They were making us all laugh and that's all that mattered we were laughing so much tears ran down our faces. Audiences did feel like saying, "please don't mention what the critics have said about your act again, sod what the critics think and just get on with it we like you and we think you're funny! I did not realise how insecure Comedians can be, but no one like being criticised hey? The tram jokes were constant, you had to be there!

The city smells of rain, beer, cigarettes, (no I do not smoke, just miss the smells sometimes of how pubs use to smell, you know the smells that use to hit you when you first opened the doors of a good old British pub and that seems so long ago now, another era gone for good, but some people would love it so...). The arousing smell of men's aftershave, wet hair, women's perfumes was provocative. However the heat in some of the venues was a bit much at times, all crammed in together on very small seats, lol! I did enjoy all of that really and the camaraderie of the people around me was comforting. There was definitely poor air conditioning in some of the buildings because some of the buildings are all quite old or the doors and windows not left open for long enough to perceive some kind of fresh air. So people were using the leaflets to fan themselves, including me! A slight feeling of the black hole of Calcutta came to mind at one point!

There was food smells everywhere on the streets of Edinburgh, good Scottish food, soup, fish and chips, fried haggis and deep fried mars bars and the smells lingered everywhere! The restaurants are many and great too because Edinburgh has them all, just wonderful.

There were quite a few celebrities (TV folks) knocking about and a very tanned Clive Anderson and a very tall John Lesley. I have not seen him on TV for a while and I wonder why, now let me think? A few more TV folks were walking about, but I couldn't remember their names.

There were lots of beautiful mature and young people everywhere and some of them were constantly giving you leaflets for various acts, venues and you ended up filling your pockets and handbag with leaflets and flayers and of course I said thank you with a smile but it gets a bit much at times! There was no way that anyone could see all of the shows at the Festival, but it would be fun trying!

It’s a shame I miss Anthony Boudain though! Why I am in love with this guy I don't know he's not even my type, but he's got under my skin so I'm going with the dream, okay folks! He's just got married again so that's it, I have to come to terms with it, but its not easy! :*(

I would highly recommend the Edinburgh Festival and especially sitting outside a coffee shop or restaurant for a while its so worth the watch. Someone will always say hello and tells you about their show and what a great time they are having and vice versa!

Catching up!

I so like this guys show on Sky, as you may know I am a real foodie and just love his books. Anthony’s books are, Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw. I love his honesty and he tells it how it is in his world in both books. Medium Raw is his latter, but he’s written several. Apparently he was in Edinburgh and lots of celebrity chiefs where in the audience. I could not make it, but he would have had a big kiss from me, on the cheek of course now because he’s just got married again so...I better get in the cue though as I bet there are lots of women after Anthony? I cannot help it having a thing from men who like the ladies of the night too or as he states Hookers! He discusses hookers in his books, ladies of the night oh no, day and evening hours for me. He’s right, its rude to eat and criticise food when someone has specially cooked a meal for you! Just leave the moaning until you leave unless your paying for it! If people sniff food and pull their faces and wont try different things, that they have not eaten before or push their food around on their plates moaning after you have gone to a lot of trouble to cook it, then don't give them a second invite! I wouldn't and that's for sure!

The Uzbekistan massage is one of the funniest programmes I have ever seen on his TV travel show on Sky and tears were running down my face and holding my stomach and laughing about it for days. If you ever get a chance to see him having this massage, in his travel programme, please watch it it is so funny.

Anthony seems like a guy who has and does enjoys himself, travels the world and eating everything and anything and long may his programme last. Oh, yes and his books are a great read and there are not enough superlatives for this guy, his books and his life. I’m in love!

This is so funny boys and girls, have a good read you will be in tears laughing!

I was in tears laughing...

For my birthday, my girlfriend bought me a week of Personal Training at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since playing on my school football team, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer call Beccy, who identified herself as a 26 year old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swimsuits. My girlfriend seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

Monday: Started my day at 6:00am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Beccy waiting for me. Tuesday: Drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Beccy made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air - then she put weights on both ends! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Beccy's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

Saturday: Beccy left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrill voice demanding why I didn't show up today. Just hearing her made me choke on my lager and want to smash the phone up. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote, and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the fucking Weather Channel.

Men are great!

Now I realise a lot of you are probably confused by that title. Chances are you're waiting for the punch line of some anti-male joke (Men are great AT...insert derogatory male stereotype here). There are certain pictures that make me cry every time I see them. I'm talking about pictures of soldiers, giving their lives to protect us, pictures of fire-fighters on 9-11, pushing their way UP into the towers, going to their doom in order to save lives. How many times have men faced death in protection of their countries, their homes, their families? How many men have worked at thankless jobs, never complaining, never questioning, in order to provide for their families? Now, I'm not implying that this is what men should be doing...sacrificing themselves. I'm saying that, right, wrong or otherwise, this is what men always have done and continue to do, and the very least we should do is recognise and show appreciation for that fact.

To put it simply, I love men, and not in a 'I like to sleep around and men are great in that capacity' way, either. I love and celebrate all the wonderfully unique traits and characteristics that are distinctly male. Now, I could expand upon all the contributions men have made to the world, but I won't, I don't have enough room on my blog, or enough time, (but I might so keep reading boys and wait for my research)!

Suffice to say that due to the minds and accomplishments of men, the world has benefited more than can be conveyed. What I will take time to do is acknowledge some of the little things, the things that tend to be taken for granted and go unnoticed. I know for a fact that if anything gross, disgusting or dirty has to be done, my husband, (this lady is not me remember boys, lol)! no questions asked, is going to do it.

There's never an argument over who's going to go outside and shovel the driveway or who's going to change the oil, or the tire. I can guarantee if anybody ever needed to kill anything or venture into a potentially spider infested crawl space, it wouldn't be me. Not because I'd refuse…I'd never have to (I like spiders so this would never be me). If there's anything repugnant to be done, my husband does it. I have at times volunteered, because I know he'd never ask me to, but he says no. I bet we are all going to feel the pinch in our pockets, regarding imported fruit, computer parts soon due to the dust! We so rely on specific things so much, like computer, oil, mobile phones, electricity, the bloody banks, the Internet, air travel. We go into shock mode if one or two of these things are taken away from us. “Economic disasters loom too, for airlines and others. There are genuinely frightened travellers stuck from Mumbai to Moscow, without much money and with their children”. I read this, this morning. It must be terrible for lots of people who are stranded out there. However, there are always winners in bad situations, especially those people with few responsibilities, plenty of finances, sitting on a beach all day because the airlines are paying their hotel bill, lucky them! Lol.

I don't think I will be doing any tours this month folk, sorry!

Happy New Year every one and hope you had a great Christmas?

New Years Resolutions do you have any?

My New Years resolutions are as per usual, they are about striving for happiness like most human beings. It's about living my life with care and considerations for myself as well as for others, and then everything else falls into place we hope. It's also about doing a good job and being professionally in whatever I do. Professionalism is all about taking account of the detail, whilst also being able to take in the bigger picture. It's about consistency and care and unless someone takes a real pride in what you do they will never attain professionalism? I am not sure that this can be taught to anyone. I think that you need to have the correct personality traits in order to take on what is needed. If you have this ability, out there in your life then you know where I am coming from. So lets hope this will continue to add to my happiness, we all love happiness don't we? It's certainly hard to measure as it is different for everyone. So good health, wealth and happiness to you all for 2010.

I had a great time with family and friends and had a nice holiday break, hope you did too! Boy the weather has been interesting for us all and hope not really bad for you in your areas folks. The cold is really bad today where I live and hopefully this will mean a great summer for us all, for a change this year. Life is like the weather it's cyclic so let's hope its a good Spring and Summer in 2010. I cannot remember a good summer in the North for about 4 or 5 years or a time since I was able to sit in the garden and have a barbecue regularly throughout the summer. You start to feel the weather will never improve these last few years, but the planet and weather is a big subject these days and we should always remember it is like life, very cyclic, highs and lows and sometimes I think that everyone forgets this. The planet after all have been around for about 4 to 6 billion years. More holiday breaks are needed for me this year as the sun has been lacking for a while in the North, but I did like the snow at Christmas this year.

So good health, wealth and happiness to you all for 2010.
